Parent Letter #3 (Pursuasive)

Literacy Play Centers
This year students will be benefiting from literacy play centers.  The purpose of literacy play centers is for students to learn the purposes of reading and writing as they use written language in their play.  Housekeeping centers, science centers and social studies centers can all be modified to increase literacy exposure.  These centers can become literacy play centers when materials for reading and writing are added.  For example the housekeeping center will be turned into a post office for part of the year and the center will include materials for students to write letters, stamps and mailboxes.  The centers will change throughout the year but there will always be a literacy aspect to all of the centers. Literacy play centers provide a link between literacy and play and literacy and real world experiences through dramatic play.
